Today, I want to tell you what might be a mystery of art history and that at least it will remain unsolved until the owner of that painting will be ready to contact an expert.
Chatting with her I offered any help with my blog, and here I am, telling you her story, hoping some experts social friends of mine and also the Robyan blog followers can give us a hand.
Everything started when Grazia Marino de Robertis (this is the name of the protagonist) meets a friend (she doesn’t mention the name because of privacy) that was photographed near to a painting.
She was probably to an Antiquaria fair.
When Grazia sees the photo she has an heartbeat: two of her ancestors … obviously she contact her friend immediately and she, kindly gives her more details.
So Grazia goes to her house and after a few days she shows her painting.
If you look they resemble and even a lot!
Probably not the same hand …
Maybe a trainee student …
But who’s the art workshop?
And this is the amazing thing …
The cartouche says Annibale Carracci: the painting is oil on paper applied on cardboard, while the painting of Grazia is on canvas …
Grazia said that one of them should be the parent of her genealogical branch who served at Cardinal Alberoni, an intriguing prelate bound to the Farnese …
Unfortunately, she doesn’t have much news about it, but in my opinion it is a real mystery to discover, what do you think?
